JAPAN/INDIA: Mitsubishi Electric is to invest around US$222.5m in a new 88,000m2 room air conditioner and compressor factory in India.
The new factory will be built on a 210,000m2 site in Tamil Nadu in southern India. It is Mitsubishi Electric’s first air conditioning plant in a country where it is witnessing growing demand. Mitsubishi Air Compressor
Production is scheduled to start in October 2025 and will have an initial annual capacity of 300,000 outdoor units and 650,000 compressors.
The investment is part of Mitsubishi Electric’s air conditioning and refrigeration systems sales target of $10.5bn and operating profit of 12% by the fiscal year ending March 2026.
The Japanese manufacturer expects to invest some $1.5bn in related facilities worldwide, including Europe and the United States, over a five-year period ending in March 2026.
