A new 4,000W AC-to-AC frequency converter has been unveiled by True Blue Power. It was built specifically to withstand the harsh operating environment in large business jets, as well as in commercial and special-mission aircraft.

The TFC4000 turns three-phase 115 VAC at 360-800Hz into single-phase 115 VAC at 60Hz. The AC-to-AC frequency converter powers outlets throughout the aircraft to support electronics and appliances such as laptops, computer systems, TVs, vacuums, coffeemakers, galley equipment and IFE systems. The TFC4000 AC-to-AC frequency converter weighs 19.8 lbs (9kg), and the company said it is 30% lighter than competing converters. It is also designed to be very quiet, with independent temperature and speed-controlled fans to reduce noise.

The design involves silicon carbide technology, custom magnetics and plenum cooling to increase efficiency and protect internal components from moisture and contaminants commonly found outside the pressure vessel and in non-temperature-controlled locations.
